What I have been doing with myself this week...

My moroccan rug came in! It now sits in front of my 70's mirrored credenza, waiting for me to decide where the f I want to put it. I think it is going in the bedroom...

This suzani pillowcase is inspiring my entire next decor move. White sofa, cobalt blue chair, steel drum table, lucite desk. I'm calling it Global Glam. Did I make that up?!

My client Jamie and I got started on her entry. Painted Gustavian chest, pieced reclaimed wood mirror, round table with burlap skirt and ivory cowhide. Now waiting on the fabulous lantern!

Remember when I went to that gorgeous artist's studio sale? Check out the blog post here. Well, I finally had this piece framed and I love it! So soothing, and I love the rough linen against the pure white mat.

And I was so inspired by this Christian Chaize photo in this dining room that I finally had to have one blown up for myself. I went the cheap and easy route, which is probably illegal, so don't tell! Sorry for the reflection in the glass, but it's gorgeous! So happy- I love art!

**Disclaimer: So many of you have been sweet enough to send me kind words on my apartment from this MadeByGirl post. Thank you!! However, that was my apartment last year. I sold all of those items and have now moved on to a new look that I am collecting pieces for. So when I ask for advice on new things, it is for the new Global Glam look. Oh, I didn't make that up - Elle Decor uses it all the time. Woo hoo! I love design!
Have an awesome weekend...

(P.S. I sold everything except the geometric painting from over the sofa that was inspired by Gemma Smith's Snarl Up. If I can think of a way to ship it (it is huge) I may do a giveaway for it!)

Is this neon sign too obvious???? hahaha

Hey guys - I am so happy and grateful for all of you who stopped by this week and decided to follow this tiny blog. Now that you are here I have a question for you. I love neon art - all of the pics here inspire me so much. I was thinking of having a neon art piece made for my wall - either a single word, or line of poetry, or the title of my favorite song...
Do you think this is cheesy or do you love it? Be honest - I think the way you style the room around it is so important, too!

Banner Day

It's been a banner day for me! My new friend Jessica sent me the link to the chandelier I have been looking for all my life - it's the Kristall from Ylighting - available here. Yay!!!!! It is $1500 smackers. Boo!!!! Oh, well - I will start saving my pennies.
Also, my dear pal Jen from MadeByGirl posted on my apartment. Thanks, Jen! There is a reason this girl has so many readers - she is crazy awesome.
Thanks so much to everyone - if it were not for this little blog I would not have had this amazing day. :)

Mellow Yellow

Who am I kidding by rhyming? Yellow is definitely NOT mellow. It is inspired, bold, fresh, cheerful, and the perfect pop against almost any color - but especially pale blue/green. Try just a lamp or vase in citron, and see if you don't get a smile on your face every time you walk in the room!

P.S. The lamps in Rachel Zoe's house are through Kenneth Wingard....

I Give Up

Since this image came out in Domino years ago I have made it my mission to find and own that chandelier. I have come back to it, googling it, year after year like an old boyfriend. I am tired, people. I cannot remember the name of the Domino editor the house belonged to ( I think her name starts with an F) and I cannot find this chandelier to save my life.
Please help.

Mardi Gras Interiors

Mardi Gras is almost upon us! The weather here in New Orleans is already hot and the parades and parties have already started. The big weekend this year is March 4th-8th, and I will be heading down to Mexico as usual to avoid all the crowds and madness (my apartment is right on the parade route). What I do like about Mardi Gras, however, are the colors. Most people here avoid using purple, green and gold in their interiors, because it seems like a Mardi Gras theme. I love using purple and gold in design - here are a couple of my faves.
And if you plan on coming down for Mardi Gras this year, catch some beads for me!

DVF Home and Teen's Bedroom

Everyone else is blogging about DVF's new home line of tabletop, bedding, etc.. so I guess I should, too. I do not care for the bedding, as I am a huge believer in white bedding, or as classic and plain as possible, but I loooooooooooooove the tabletop items! You can see it all on her site or it is available through Bloomingdale's.
Also, this great teen's room has been floating around for a while and it makes me very happy...

Existential Design Crisis

As a designer I look at hundreds of pictures a week. All different design styles inspire me and I love all colors. When creating my own space I have been known to completely scrap everything I own and start from scratch every year, as I become enamored of another look. This past six months I have been collecting pieces from the 70's - a mirrored credenza, lucite desk, the white lacquer bedside chests from the previous post. I bought the cream Moroccan rug which is on its way to me now, and a stainless steel drum table that I love. Of course I mix in classics like the gray Hermes blanket for the bed and the burl wood armoire that I painted. I was planning on getting a white sofa and armchair and keeping everything nude, white, pale and glamorous.
Then these suzani pillows from Uzbekistan arrived in my showroom. I want to cover my entire apartment with them. They are huge, silk, with rich colors. I have already chosen two for myself and suddenly I am moving in a new direction. Exotic, intense, cozy, well-traveled. Love!

Painted Chests and Giveaway Winner

Remember this red closet that I wanted to imitate? (top) Well, I finally finished with the burl armoire I got on Ebay. I added the lucite handles and painted the inside with red lacquer. You can use high gloss paint (love Benjamin Moore) in an oil base and sand after each coat if you are doing it yourself. Or you can purchase actual lacquer through Fine Paints of Europe, but it dries very quickly and I don't recommend this for beginners. I am a little lazy, so I did not sand. I used "The Gripper" primer, which is an amazing primer that grips to any surface, even glass! Then I used Behr Premium Ultra high gloss paint in red. If you go to Home Depot, they already have this lacquer finish paint mixed in red, black, and white. It is available in quarts and gallons. It has a hard, glossy finish - I suggest four or five very thin coats. Anyway, I love it and now am trying to figure out if I should install hooks on the inside for necklaces, etc.. Right now I just have some purses and clutches in the top and I installed bamboo divider trays from The Container Store in the drawer for all my jewelry. It feels amazing to be organized!
The bedside chests I had done by a professional refinisher here in New Orleans. They used a true lacquer. I gave them the Benjamin Moore color I wanted and they did it for $250 each chest. I thought that was worth it to avoid the hassle and have it be perfect. They even cleaned up the brass bottom and handles. Gorg!
On to the First Giveaway Winner - chosen completely at random...... BEKI!!

You are mine

You are my favorite thing in these photos. You make SJP look delish even when she is haggard and beaten down. You have been in my fantasies for years. You mocked me from many an Ebay auction as you have countless admirers who run your price up. You cannot escape me any longer. You arrived at 2pm today and you are better than I ever thought you would be. You are mine, and even though I have failed to commit to any other piece of furniture or accessory ever, with you I will say "forever".
Happy Valentine's month, Hermes Avalon blanket. I love you.

*I won the charcoal gray color, for those of you who are interested... :)

Tole Chandeliers

Remember my bestie in San Diego (mother of Madeleine, Sweet and Sour Nursery recipient)? Well, we work on her house whenever we have some time - which is not a lot these days! The entire house is sort of inspired by this Chiang Mai fabric by Schumacher. The breakfast room is going to have the Saarinen tulip table, a zebra print cowhide, upholstered linen booth seating, and some pillows in the chiang mai fabric. We found a tole style chandelier on Ebay and I am going to paint it for her. We can't decide what color to paint it. I love these chandeliers in yellow, red, coral, and tiffany blue. It could also be pretty in white, but the table is white. What do you think?
