Shine on me

The only thing that could have possibly improved yesterday's attic apartment would have been a few skylights. I have never lived in a place with skylights. Do they get dirty? Do they hold in heat and cool air well? I love these spaces with skylights or glass roofs - what do you think?

I think skylights are worth the dirt. But what do I know...never had one.

I've never lived with them. . . but my sister just moved into a place with some in the kitchen and living room. They let in awesome light and make the whole apartment seem a lot bigger. I'm a fan.

The architect says "Depends. And possibly." LOL

Translation: "Depends on the type of glass how dirty they will get (clear v. frosted) there is even a film that reduces water spotting. They function similarly to windows, so double pane will perform better than single. But then you need to take into account the finish of the glass, is it low-e, gas-filled, etc., to determine the amount of heat gain due to light transmission." So there you go.

These are gorgeous examples!
