Hollywood Nursery

After having my bestie in town this past weekend with baby Maddie (my Sweet and Sour Nursery project recipient), I have nurseries on the brain again. I have always wanted to do a nursery around this Sharon Montrose baby tiger photograph. This one is a little more Hollywood Regency than I would do for myself, but isn't it graphic and cool?
If you don't like the dark vintage chandelier, you could always change it out for this white disc one by Vistosi (below), and add an inlaid mirror. This look could be great on any background, but I especially love it with pale gray or blue walls... What do you think?

Haven't been feeling too inspired this week, guys. Maybe it is the heat here in New Orleans, but all I want to do these days is lie under a fan and read (currently blowing through The Hunger Games series). Speaking of reading, thanks for the post on book walls for children, Shelter Blog! The library wall in the nursery I did has always been the most popular and blogged about space... Maddy is really loving it as well! Thanks to my blogging bestie Sabra for pointing it out to me.

Is it just me?

This photo of a nursery was blogged the world over when Elizabeth Taylor passed a while back. It is a stunning photo of her, a gorgeous pink hue, and I think it makes great art. But not in a nursery. Am I alone in thinking that a woman in lingerie (portraying a prostitute in the movie Butterfield 8) is not the best art for a nursery? I think it would be amazeballs in a bachelorette or bachelor pad, bedroom or dressing room. Maybe I am just crazy...what do you think - inappropriate or pretty?

Book/Art Ledges

Today I received another call about the nursery I did for my bestie in San Diego. This call (and 99% of all calls received) was about the book ledges. It has been super popular and is a great idea for any nursery, child's room, or art wall.
The ledges we did were custom, but they were based on Pottery Barn's Holman ledges.

We took the height and depth of the Holman ledges (3.5" each) and then made ours the length we wanted (about 100" long). The most important thing about choosing the length is to make sure you can get that long a piece of wood down your hallways and to turn into the room! Then we took this picture to Home Depot (you can use Lowe's or any wood worker) and had them cut the ledges to our measurements. Then we painted them the same color as the wall. I like my shelves to be 14" apart to allow for the height of most children's picture books, so I took the height of the ceiling (in inches) and divided it by 14 to see how many rows I could do to fill up the entire wall.

Use a chalk line to make sure your lines are straight, then apply the ledges to the wall on your chalk lines. We drilled them into the studs, filled in the drill holes with wood putty, and painted the spots.

Sounds like a lot of time and energy, but it saves a ton of money!

Nursery Revealed

I am so excited that Erin at House of Turquoise blogged on the nursery in San Diego. Here are the complete pictures - it was so overcast that I could not get a lot of light in there but it is still cozy and we are so proud of it. Little Madeleine Elizabeth Hensley loves it, too!
