Case of the Mondays

I have just not been feeling inspired lately. Besides the walking pneumonia I have been dealing with, I have got a serious "Case of the Mondays"... so blah. On a positive note, yesterday was stunningly beautiful, a true fall day - and I received my copy of Show in the mail - the book by Ralph Pucci. I really want to write to him and do all that I can to get a job in one of his showrooms, but I am afraid that anything I send will fall through the cracks. Do any of you have a creative idea for reaching past the "gatekeepers" to the head honcho?

Australian Design

I have been thinking about a trip to Australia lately. I have blogged before about Vogue Living Australia being my fave design mag, and Belle is also a great shelter publication from Australia. I think that the Aussies may have the most exciting design point of view right now. Maybe because they are so cut off from the rest of the world, they do not feel the need to follow trends and they certainly have some of the most beautiful landscapes and architecture in the world. Not to mention that I could visit some of my favorite stores and bloggers, like Anna Spiro of Black and Spiro!

Design Crush: Jeff Andrews and client

Here is a project done by Los Angeles designer Jeff Andrews. Most of Jeff's work is really accessible and lovely, but this moody, sexy bachelor pad in Rome is my favorite of all his work. I love you, Jeff Andrews, but my heart really belongs to the client who went for this design. Mystery Italian, I want to live there with you!

Have you guys ever seen the "Missed Connections" section on Craigslist? It is like the personals in the paper except these people write in hoping to connect with someone that they saw that day. The way that they describe their crush is occasionally poetic and often hilarious. Sophie Blackall takes the listings from Craigslist in NY and does the most amazing illustrations of them. I can imagine an entire wall of these in a guest bath or guest bedroom. The prints are only $40 each in her Etsy shop! These are my current faves and she puts them up as she does new ones on her blog. Check them out...

I boarded the uptown C train at 14th Street at around 10:50 on Tuesday morning. You got off at 23rd. You were staring at me. Hard. You're really really really ridiculously good-looking.

Almost Perfect

Very rarely do I see a home that is completely perfect for me. There is always a few things that I would change. Some of Ryan Korban's rooms are almost there for me, Laura Day's living and dining area are 99% perfectly my dream space, and Delphine Krakoff's homes are high-art versions of rooms I would love to live in. This townhouse belonging to Gilles Mendel is now entering the mix. Sure, there are some things about it that I do not care for (namely the red bedroom) but mostly I love it. Love it, love it, love it. Good thing it is on sale. Bad thing is I don't have a bazillion dollars. If someone would like to buy me a dress or fur from his fashion house J Mendel to make me feel better I will love you forever...

New life for AD

I know everyone in blogland has remarked on Margaret "Peggy" Russell taking over as editor of Architectural Digest, so I will make this brief. I have never in my entire life paid for an issue of Architectural Digest. I find this absurd, because I am passionate about all things design. The reason is because this magazine managed to make my passion boring. The straight ahead photography, goopy, collections-heavy styling, and repeat of the same designers and architectural styles made each issue a carbon copy of the last. I really hope that Margaret makes this magazine fresh and great again, because we need another shelter magazine to look at besides Elle Decor! I know that everything is going digital but there are tons of new designers and architects out there who deserve to be published. Good luck to Margaret - I have my fingers crossed!

Coolest Art Process Ever

Rosemarie Fiore lights firecrackers and then controls them under bowls and buckets, etc.. creating pop-art collages on paper without blowing off an arm. If I had a backyard and tons of protective gear, I would totally try this. She has also used waffle irons and a Scrambler ride from the fair in her art.
