brad's sofa

I love Rachel Zoe's home and show, and I wanted to love Brad Goreski's show when it came out this year but I could not get into it. I do love the style shoots but the personal issues seemed to take over every episode.

However, I have to say that I was blown away by his house. Brad lives with his love, a longtime producer of shows like Will and Grace, so they have the $$$ to have an awesome mid century modern home in L.A.

Check out over 20 pics, including tons of detail shots, HERE.
I DIE for the turquoise velvet sofa.

designer i love: raji radhakrishnan

I think my favorite and most move-in ready room from this year's Kip's Bay showhouse was the one by Raji Radhakrishnan. She has only been working in design for about 7 years, can you believe it? It seems that a common element in all of her designs is the architectural or art photograph blown up into a wall mural. I think it looks absolutely sensational in the way she uses it, but almost all other wall murals look cheesy to me. I find her work to be so soothing and inviting, I could honestly live in any of these spaces! Happy weekend...

deco dream

You guys know the Deco period is seriously my fave of all time. The new Great Gatsby movie with Leo DiCaprio looks like it is going to be an explosion of Deco excess and a serious treat for the eyes. Check out the trailer below!

more kips bay

I am just loving everyone's photos from the Kips Bay house this year! Julie from Belle Vivir is showing us a few amazing rooms each day and I love every one! Knocking me out this year are these details:

Green bookshelves in Jamie Drake's library

Paneled oak walls in Alexander Doherty's bedroom

Jamie Drake always wows, but Alexander Doherty is new to my radar. I love having new talent to obsess over! Off to his website to drool...

kips bay showhouse 2012

Once I caught a "designer" in my store taking pictures of a sconce to copy and I stopped her, citing plagiarism, good neighbor standards, and just plain old ethics, and she told me, "Everyone copies everyone else. No one is doing anything new anymore."

Here is the Kips Bay Decorator Showhouse 2012 as evidence that she is wrong. Check out more of the original, beautiful interiors at the New York Times slideshow or at Habitually Chic, where these pics are from...

I wish you all a wonderful weekend. Keep striving to do creative, original work - the world needs it!

leather pants goodness

I like to shop. Alot. The reason I can shop in such great quantity is because I don't spend a whole heck of a lot on individual pieces. I love Loubies but I certainly don't have any. I love Celine and Hermes and Vuitton and of course mid range price points like DVF and Tibi but I don't own much of it, unless it was found on Ebay or deep discount. This may sound funny to some fashionistas, but I have almost never spent more than $250 on a dress. I usually buy my labels at the end of the season when they are on sale, and most of my favorite stuff is Zara.

These leather pants by Malene Birger are going to be the end of me. They are going to sell out before they go on sale and I am desperate for them. The almost $900 price tag is making me sick to my stomach, but if they look good I know I will wear them almost daily. I might have to get these instead of recovering my sofa...ugh.

Is there anything out there tempting you to the point of illness?

oh suzani

I am trying to come up with a cool design scheme for my sis' upstairs family room. So inspired by this Hilary Thomas design that was featured in Lonny...

The walls are all white, the floors are pickled pale oak, and there is a built in desk for three people, which will have chocolate Herman Miller desk chairs like these:

There will definitely be gray throughout the house so now I need to recover this ottoman in a plummy mohair...

And put this plum/gray/brown fabric on some pillows or chairs...

And I can't tell yet without a swatch but maybe these curtains from Crate and Barrel (have seamstress add lining for more weight and use rings with clips instead of rod pocket)...

And this graphic, black chandelier...

And this would probably be pushing it over the edge, but I would love to use it somewhere! Have you seen this great indoor/outdoor rug at Ballard?

Tons of family photos framed in white and call it a day! I think that looks pretty cozy...what do you think?

what i did with myself this week...

I got these drapes from Restoration Hardware - the fog color is amazeballs. Now if I can just drill into my concrete block building...

My fishscale chest from Julian Chichester finally arrived and it is huuuuuuuge. I don't know where in the tiny bedroom this bad boy will end up, but I am so excited to finally have a place for my underwear, which has been hanging in an overnight bag on the back of my closet door. :)

Been so crazed making decisions for my sister's house that I can't even think straight. Everything from the mantel shape to the mailbox is my choice and I am overwhelmed but grateful. I think this Zgallerie mirror is so perfect for bathrooms. It looks like the much more expensive Oly one, is clean and yet glamorous at the same time, and is the perfect size for vanities.

I have also been getting very comfy with my iphone. I hate to admit that I love it - I feel like I am betraying my old blackberry! I got this whipsnake case from J Crew and I absolutely adore it - it is so classic and rich looking...

Last but not least, most of you know that I do not want to take care of a pet and need my home to be clean and odor-free at all times. I also do not like cats at all. But my store does have a cat that lives there and she is diabetic. I have been caring for her as part of my job for six years, giving her two shots of insulin a day, taking her to the vet, and even evacuating with her twice! People come by just to visit with Smokey Joe - and she disappeared for two weeks a bit ago. Well, she was found down the street and after two weeks with no insulin, she was only a little woozy and is now back to her old self. She truly is a miracle cat!

So that's my week - one more day then I finally get a break. Happy weekend, loves!

flamingos in the bathroom

You know my niece Lily's room ranges in color from the palest pink to coral to hot watermelon. What better piece of art for her bath than Cozamia's "Flamingo Triangle"? Get your own now on One King's Lane...

shameless publicity whore

You don't know how happy it makes me to discover my designs on other blogs out there. I truly love that people are inspired by my work. Check out my Organic Glam Zen apartment used as inspiration on Bijou and Boheme HERE...

And Bryn Alexandra was inspired by the springtime colors of my Bachelorette Pad apartment - HERE...

I did that painting myself and it was totes easy with painters tape! So I am loving all the shout outs - I know people are pinning pics like crazy and don't know where they come from - but it would be fabulous to get a link back or a name mention....just saying...

yay weekend

P.S. On my trip to Marshall's yesterday for the hangers: there was a YSL bag there! At MARSHALL'S. It was only $400 off retail so it was still $1200 bucks, but I don't know what the heck is going on - I got very excited even though I can't afford it.

And the Eames lounge chair and ottoman I bought months ago on Ebay finally came in. I think I will recover it in the La Fiorentina gray and beige pattern. You can see the pink/red/gray/black rug underneath and there will be gray linen drapes behind it. What do you think? Is the La Fiorentina too overused?

Y'all have a sensational weekend! I will be celebrating my nephew Jack's bday, Mother's Day, and working my butt off all weekend as per the usual - catch you next week!

closet cleanout

So now that I am racking up millions of dollars of dental bills, I need to find ways to quench my decorating thirst without spending too much money. Yesterday I got $30 bucks worth of velvet slimline hangers at Marshall's and turned my closet from this -

To this -

It feels and looks so good! And looking at each item individually forced me to decide whether to keep or donate it, so I did some good Spring cleaning, as well. I highly recommend a closet makeover this weekend!

thump on the head

Whenever I start spending too much time shopping and spending money, life finds a way to thump me on the head and let me know that I need to save and be more careful. This week it is a broken crown - will be $1200 to replace! ugh. So I can't recover my sofa right now - but I am so grateful that I had the money to take care of this and that it happened before I sent my things to the upholsterer!
Hope you are having a better hump day than me - off to the dentist...
